IRS Issues Notice Updating Exemptions from and Waivers of the Requirements to Electronically File Certain Forms:

The IRS has issued a notice that updates administrative exemptions from and waivers of the requirements to file certain returns in electronic form. Talk with an accounting professional if you have clarifications on exemptions and waivers. An additional exemption is now available for filers whose use of technology required to file electronically conflicts with their religious beliefs (religious exemption). Consult with a CPA for further clarification on this additional exemption. Form 8508 (Application for Waiver from Electronic Filing of Information Returns) must be filed by those seeking this exemption. The notice also authorizes the Commissioner to grant certain waivers in cases of undue hardship (hardship waiver). The commissioner is also authorized to provide other administrative exemptions to promote effective and efficient tax administration. Additionally, this notice explains that instructions regarding timely filing and for correcting returns that are rejected during attempts to electronically file using the IRS e-filing systems may be found in the IRS publications specific to each IRS e-filing system. If you need more assistance, Florida CPAs can help. Note, this notice obsoletes Notice 2010-23. Notice 2023-60.
